Do Eyebrows Grow Back After Chemo Treatment

By Amanda Baird

Cancer patients who go through chemotherapy treatments will typically lose the hair on their body. This happens because the chemo kills fast growing cancer cells as well as other fast growing cells in the body. The treatment does not distinguish between healthy cells and cancer cells. Although this side affect can be upsetting to most people, it is not permanent. Folks who are concerned about the loss of body hair will often ask do eyebrows grow back after chemotherapy. The answer to that inquiry is yes.

The amount of time it will take for hair to regrow when treatment is over varies by individual. The length of time to regrow hair depends on the type of chemotherapy used. The potency of the treatments vary so some are milder than others. Depending on how strong the drug is some will lose hair about fourteen days after the initial round of treatment or after the next round of chemo.

In addition to the hair on the head and eyebrows, it is common for folks to lose other facial hair such as eyelashes and nasal hair. There are several things that can be done to make the loss less noticeable. Many women use eyebrow pencil every day to enhance their natural eyebrow or give them a different shape.

The pencil is also a great way to create the illusion that you have eyebrows. It is important to apply the pencil lightly to give the idea of eyebrows. When brows are drawn on to dark they do not have a natural appearance and are not attractive.

Chemo treatments can also cause your skin to appear chalky or ash colored. Wearing makeup will help you feel better about the changes that have taken place since starting treatment. To help you look natural instead of made up, choose colors that are muted. Adding dark or bright makeup will not look natural and will be very obvious.

If you decide to wear wigs, apply this tactic to the color of the hair you choose. Avoid wearing hair that is very dark. Select hair that is about one shade lighter than your own natural color. If you are naturally blond you may not need to concern themselves with this.

If you ask several people about the regrowth of eyebrows you are likely to get yes and no answers. There are different levels for fullness and some brows may not grow in as full as they once were. It may be necessary for some people to fill in with brow pencil for a fuller brow. On the other hand there are some people who experience no change from the original eyebrow.

Many people ask about hair loss and loss of eyelashes however they do not ask do eyebrows grow back after chemo ends. This is typically because they have so many questions that feel more urgent than facial hair growing back. A lot of folks do ask about regrowth after their eyebrows fall out. It is comforting to know that the brows come back once the treatment is over.
