The Relevance Of Clodronate Liposome In Medical Science

Before, thousands of residents die because certain medicine or vaccination was not yet available in the market. However, due to the discoveries of these geniuses, curing the once deadly diseases are now possible. Since medical science plays a very fascinating role in medicine science, clodronate liposome was discovered, accidentally. Because of the great role it plays in curing and treating diseases, it will surely be of great importance to medical science.

Clodronic acid or clodronic sodium, or more commonly known as clodronate liposome is the first generation of non nitrogen bisphosphonate. It is a drug and approved scientifically to treat and prevent the cases of osteoporosis. This happened when women already reach the stage of post menopausal time. In experimental science, it is used to decrease macrophages.

These are white blood cells within tissues. Macrophages are produced by the division of the white blood cells formed in the bone marrow and spleen. These kind of white blood cell is known to be as monocytes which ingest foreign particles after it was formed. Basically, macrophage is the core of the system which fight against infectious viruses and diseases.

Liposomes, in cell biology, are the microscopic sac that are composed of fatty liquids. They are used in the experimental research of the cell. It can be supplied with drugs used in curing cancer and other diseases. It usually contained of liquid solutions and composed of phospholipids.

Clodronate liposome is a discovery which functions to suppress the macrophage. It is true that immune system fights bacteria and viruses. Through various steps so called the immune response, the system attacks these infectious invaders that may cause disease. But at the same time, this system could also be a culprit in the human body.

In normal circumstances, a healthy immune system will help in dealing with sickness such as colds, fever and coughs. They functions as the defender from illnesses and diseases. On the other way around, a damaged one will result to your own cells attacking the healthy cells. When this happens, various severe medical disorders will affect the body.

The system protects the body from foreign invasion, as mentioned earlier. However, it will also create damages resulted by transplant rejection. This rejection happens when a a newly transplanted organ was placed in the body. As this happens, the system will attack the cells forcefully leading to rejection. One of the effects of the rejection is the autoimmune disorder or the identification of healthy cells wrongly and trying to fight off them because they thought that they are foreign.

Because of the autoimmune disorders that could actually happen, here comes the discovery of the mighty liposome. This is composed of bisphosphonate and will deplete macrophages. After it was transported, macrophage will detect that it is alien. In result, it will engulf it through the thing so called phagocytosis.

This discovery marked a significance in the history of medicine industry. Not only that the cancers will be treated, other diseases will be as well. However, even though clodronate liposome is reported to help treat cancer and many other illnesses, consult your own doctor first. This is to ensure your health will not be at risk.
