How Holistic Services Can Boost Your Health

By Michael Obrien

Traditional medicine deals with sickness as it occurs. It addresses only the affected body part. For instance, complaints of pain and discomfort are usually prescribed with medicines to relieve pain. On the other hand, holistic services is concerned with the patient's overall condition. It promotes wellness in every aspect. It believes that maximum health is only possible when the mind, soul and body all function optimally.

It suggests that the mental, spiritual, emotional and physical health must be maintained to keep one healthy. Each must remain in synchrony with the others. Even the environment is believed to affect the person's well-being. If one of these aspects have not reached its potential, the others are also affected. This can lead to sickness.

Surprising as it may seem for some, the concept of holistic health is widely practiced since time immemorial. Early philosophers like Socrates and Hippocrates spoke of the interrelation of a person's health to everything around him. Similarly, ancient Chinese and Indian medicines use holistic approach. Not only do they deal with the medical anomaly, but they also include other factors that can possibly contribute to its amelioration.

While traditional medicine aims to get rid of body illness, holistic health service wants to completely eradicate the problem. Not only do they deal with the superficial feeling of pain and discomfort, but they also treat the underlying causes of such disease to prevent it from recurring. This promotes preventive measures to keep the body at its optimal condition.

Overall, it is not only about visiting clinics constantly, undergoing series of treatment or taking tons of medicines. It is a lifestyle. Every aspect is covered from the types of food one takes in to his way of living. One can only be free of illness when he eradicates the factors that could stimulate unwellness.

Only nutritious foods must be introduced to the body to keep it physically healthy. Any activities that could stress the body must be avoided. This includes engaging in unprotected sexual intercourse, smoking cigarettes and consuming too much alcohol. Poor self-esteem, negative mindset, high level of stress, excessive intake of sugar or caffeine and anything that could wane down the body are also discouraged.

The mental condition of the patient has to be monitored, too. According to studies, the patient's physical health is interrelated with his mental state. One can influence the other in a two-way method. The mind affects the body as the body affects the mind. Therefore, good mental health is imperative for a healthy body.

Even the emotional state must be taken into account. The sense of being lonely can possibly weaken the body. Hence, patients of terminal diseases must keep a happy disposition. Once one gives in to emotional burdens, the body may not function as effectively. The saying, laughter is the best medicine, is indeed true.

Finally, living an active lifestyle is encouraged. You need adequate exercise to keep your body in normal function. Luckily, there are several wellness centers that are now offering an array of holistic services. You can choose from massage therapy, aromatherapy, meditation and yoga among others. There are alternative medicines, such as acupressure, acupuncture, reflexology and naturopathic as well.
