Understanding Holistic Health And Wellness And Its Benefits

By Leticia Jensen

A common topic of late has to do with well-being and living a longer and happier life. In all this, there is the question of how modern medicine treats people, which has many people wondering if there are other solutions. The problem with modern medicine has everything to do with the fact that it is symptoms that are treated and not the root problem. The information below on holistic health and wellness can open up doors to the solutions that many people are seeking, and rightfully so.

It deals with all of the body. That means from the head right down to the toes, as well as one's spirit and emotions. Of course, this has absolutely nothing to do with religion, but instead, an individual's core. If anyone has been to a medical doctor recently, they would see that they do not treat a person in his entirety, and instead pick out the symptoms to treat.

It discovers who people really are, what their pain is, and so on. It does not promote medication or surgery, like modern medicine. Instead, the individual's real problem as a whole is sought and treated.

Basically, it intertwines the spirit, of the mind, and the body because they make up a whole. They are not individual or independent of one another. Simply put, it's a complete approach that focuses on all aspects of an individual.

Very often, it may be described using other terms, but they are not always correct. Alternative medicine, complementary or natural health may be a part of it, but they are not necessarily true of holistic treatment. Holistic treatment, on the other hand, requires a dedicated unique care plan that is designed to to treat a particular individual.

The goal is to promote balance and harmony within the individual and his or her environment. As such, there are numerous approaches which could include homeopathy, nutritional counseling, and many others. It is almost a given that herbs and vitamins form part of the healing, as is detoxification.

But that's not all! It gets the individual involved in his or her own individual care plan. They learned about self-care through awareness and guidance. They are encouraged to make serious lifestyle changes when necessary, for the greatest outcome. In doing so, and they may be able to prevent serious illnesses and diseases from developing. However, and this is very important, these approaches will strengthen the immune system, but there are no guarantees of being disease-free throughout life.

A final note about holistic wellness is that people should not stop going to doctors. Rather, they should look at their options in combination with what medical doctors have to offer. If one can avoid medication made with chemicals, it would be better for them, because they typically have side effects. While some medications may successfully treat certain medical problems, side effects can bring on numerous other conditions. It's about an overall well-being.
