By Iva Cannon

One of the markers of a society is the different roles that members play. These roles essentially translate into careers or professions. Choosing a profession comes easy for some people but for others the decision poses a challenge and they need help. Through the help of career coaching experts, people of varying ages are able to find and embark on their desired professional paths.

For the most part, this type of guidance is associated with young adults or teenagers. The traditional order in society dictates that the period of youth is used to prepare for a profession and this is why this is the area of focus for formal education. The association is therefore a logical one to make since this is the stage where most persons determine what professional path to take.

Helping someone get ready for a new career is one of the tasks of a career coach. Sometimes this is necessary when an individual decides to change professions. The transition from the old niche to the new one often requires some amount of professional guidance. Issues such as the need to be re-trained or re-certified are key features of coaching sessions with these individuals.

In some cases the need for guidance does not spring from a career change but instead stems from a desire to advance in the current field. Among the clients that career coaches may see are those individuals who are frustrated or dissatisfied with their current work status. Theses clients may need professional guidance in order to access promotions or move into other department within the entity to which they are employed.

The training given to career coaches is designed to ensure that they are adequately equipped to meet their clients' needs. This is why psychology and sociology based courses feature heavily in these training programs. Coaches must be able to assess characters and make evaluations based on the emotional and psychological status of their clients.

The psychological aspect of a coach's task is very important. The coach must be able to make evaluations on the emotional and metal status of each client before directing them on any path. They must ensure that their clients are not just mentally prepared but also psychologically capable of handling the decisions being made about their careers.

In addition to professional coaches, modern society features the traditional or informal ones. These are the people who often already play a guiding role in the lives of others such as teachers, mentors and parents. In some intimate relationships, spouses fulfill this role to each other. There are however, more complex cases which require the intervention of a trained professional.

Coaches who guide people in the making of professional related decisions are life coaches. They hold in their hands, one part of the solution that may change their clients' lives for the better. Since this role, successfully executed, leads to successful professionals, it may be deduced that these coaches play a key role in determining he success of a society.
