Assessing The Health Of Extra Virgin Olive Oil

By Robin Setser

Many people are of the opinion that extra virgin olive oil is one of the best types of fat out there but why is that? Why is it that so many people seem to live and die by this particular product when it's clear that other products may be able to give this one a run for its money? In order to better understand why this oil is looked at with such reverence, there are a number of points to consider. Keep these in mind as we assess the health of the oil in question.

In terms of the most versatile products in the culinary sense, I do not think that anyone can argue with how extra virgin olive oil can be used. If you want to put it into effect as a healthier salad dressing, you have carte blanche to do so. The same can be said if you wanted to cook entire meals, though it should be noted that greater care is needed on account of the oil's smoke point. Whatever the case may be, this is one type of oil that will not wear out its usefulness anytime soon.

Authorities like Unaprol will also tell you that it's important to understand where this products stands in terms of fat content. Extra virgin olive oil has a tremendous amount of monounsaturated fats and what this means is that the oil in question has the potential to lower the levels of bad cholesterol in the body. If you are looking at health, in general, fat has to be looked at as more than just a negative substance. As good as monounsaturated fats are, though, be careful of how many you take in.

The amount - and types - of vitamins associated with this type of oil should be recognized as well. Vitamin E is just one of the examples to consider but the reasons why this nutrient is important is because it is what most people consider to be "heart-healthy." When taken in during a consistent basis, it can reduce one's risk of cardiovascular disease later on in life. Vitamin K should also be looked to and one of the reasons for this is because of how it can help with blood clotting.

When it comes to the most essential products for any diet, I believe that this type of oil should be recognized. To put it simply, it is a natural component that can be used for a number of purposes. For instance, if you are someone who commonly utilizes canola oil for their cooking efforts, take it upon yourself to spare a bit more time and go with extra virgin instead. If you decide to go with this healthier alternative, your well being is going to become that much better.
