Aromatherapy Neck Wraps Offer Many Potential Benefits

By Bernice Terry

Aromatherapy neck wraps are used by many individuals for variety of reasons. They not only release tension in the person's neck and shoulders, but they can also assist him or her to fall asleep. The fragrance of each wrap also plays a vital role in its effect on the individual.

Aromatherapy is the name for a type of holistic technique that involves the use of essential oils to enhance a person's well-being and health. These oils are derived from various plants, herbs, and trees. Each oil has a distinct scent, and each is also associated with a different kind of benefit. This technique is becoming increasingly popular among individuals who prefer complementary and alternative therapies in addition to traditional approaches to healthcare.

Aromatherapy is considered by many holistic practitioners to be a safe, practical, and cost-effective way of enhancing one's health. Although not all individuals benefit the same way from this type of therapy, almost everyone reports at least some benefit. When the essential oils are derived from natural aromatic herbs and plants, they are crushed and added to an oil base, the latter of which is then placed in a heated dish made specifically for this purpose, or soaked into the aforementioned wrap and placed around one's neck.

Highly concentrated oils are used with this kind of therapy. This is because the botanicals from which they are made are much less potent than the oils themselves. The latter are used almost exclusively for their aroma. For example, eucalyptus scented oil is thought to provide relief from congestion of the nose and chest.

Certain essential oils used in aromatherapy are believed to significantly lessen one's overall stress levels. For instance, fragrances featuring the aroma of peppermint or basil may curb anxious thoughts and panicky feelings. Similarly, orange and spice scents are believed to lower stress-related hypertension. Lavender is another scent that has long been used as a holistic treatment for insomnia.

The use of fragrance therapy dates back centuries to early Egyptian civilizations. Certain fragrant oils were even used during the mummification process, and the country's pharaohs were often buried with over fifty different fragrances in their tombs. In later centuries, the use of scent as a holistic medicine was embraced by many individuals in France and other parts of Europe.

There is an almost unlimited number of aromas from which an individual can choose. Certain scents are thought to energize and invigorate individuals, while others are primarily used to lessen anxiety and stress levels. Some fragrances are thought to affect one's state of mind and a positive way. Similarly, specific combinations of fragrances are believed to play a vital role the enhancement of immune system strength.

Even though aromatherapy benefits have yet to be proven scientifically, numerous consumers state that they have participated in such therapy and experienced beneficial results. This is why aromatherapy neck wraps have increased in popularity over the past several years. Holistic shops carry such products, or they can be bought on the Internet. However, any alternative treatment should be discussed with one's family physician, and therapy of this kind should never be utilized as a replacement for conventional medical treatment.
